Integrated solar panel antennas

چکیده
Introduction: Autonomous communications systems often involve the use of separate solar cells and antennas, which necessitate a compromise in the utilisation of the limited surface area available. These separate items may be combined thus saving valuable ‘real estate’, provided that the antennas and solar cells are compatible [1]. One method for achieving this is to integrate the two kinds of device on the same element. In particular, solar panels occupy a large proportion of the total surface area of communications satellites, providing large flat surfaces over which antennas can be mounted, or printed. Printed antennas, commonly used in microwave communications, are naturally suited for this combination, in particular when their radiating patches can be isolated from the feed circuits [2]. Amorphous silicon solar cell technology has been found to be suitable for realising the solar antennas [3]. Of course, the integrated combination of these devices would also be of interest for terrestrial systems.

Characterization of Two Types of Conformal Antennas for Cubesats
Antennas conformal to a Cubesat surface have many advantages compared to deployed antennas. This study presents two types of conformal antennas that do not compete for the expensive surface real estate with solar cell. The first type of antenna is optically transparent antennas integrated directly on top of commercial solar cells. The second solution is slot antennas that can be placed around s...
متن کاملMars Rover Antenna for Solar-Array Integration
A low-gain crossed-slot microstrip patch antenna integrated with the solar-array panel has been successfully developed for the Mars rover application at the frequency of 400 MHz. It achieved a very low mass of 0.5 kg and occupied very small real estate (6.5 percent) of the solar panel. The electrical and mechanical characteristics of several other omni-directional low-gain antennas also are dis...

In In this paper, two low profile, single fed cavity backed slot antennas providing a circularly polarized (CP) wave are introduced. One of the antennas presents a right-handed CP (RHCP) wave, while the other one offers a left handed CP (LHCP) wave. The proposed antennas consist of a square shaped Substrtae Integrated Waveguide (SIW) cavity incorporatng two couples of radiating slots to radiate...

This paper presents a design of solar tracking system driven by 12V or 24V DC motor controlled by a microchip ‘Intelligent Drive unit IBL2403’[1]. The proposed double axis rotation solar tracker ensures the optimization of conversion of solar energy to electrical energy by orientation of ‘titanium-oxide’ PV panels’ [2-6] in accordance to the hemispherical position of the Sun. The hemispheroidal...

PHOENICS-2010 has been applied to the simulation of heat transfer within a solar panel design on behalf of the LE2M Laboratory of ICAM, Nantes, France. The panel is assumed to be horizontal and consists of three layers; glass, collector and backboard, with air spaces between. The aim of the panel is to warm air through solar irradiation. The glass and collector gather heat by the "greenhouse ef...
